What is the Silver Region Program?
The Silver Region Program is an initiative created to strengthen services for care dependency, improve long-term care, and empower and train caregivers in Latin America and the Caribbean. The objective is to improve social inclusion and economic recovery by focusing on the population over 60 years of age.

This will be achieved through expanding knowledge about the sector, building business capabilities, and financing companies with high impact potential.

What types of institutions can submit their initiatives to the Silver Region project?Startups, scaleups, social enterprises, non-profit organizations (NGOs), corporations, and universities/think tanks that are legally established as legal entities in Latin America and the Caribbean, with at least one (1) year of operation, and have a history of sales, can apply. There is no minimum of sales requirement to apply to this call for proposals. For those who wish to participate but do not have at least one (1) year of operations, they can prepare to apply for the next two (2) calls that will be released in 2025.

In which countries must the institutions operate to participate in the Silver Region program call for proposals?Proposals must be implemented in at least one of the following countries: Argentina, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

What are the topics of the proposals that can be submitted? Proposals should focus on:Innovative services for older people (60+ years) care. Training of caregivers. Prevention of functional dependence (physical and cognitive) and promotion of autonomy of older people (60+ years).

What types of solutions are being sought?We are looking for innovative and impactful solutions that have not been previously implemented in the proposing country, or that add a novel component to an existing model. They should promote social and economic inclusion and have a clear path to scalability and financial sustainability.

If we are an institution interested in care innovation, caregiver training, dependence prevention, and autonomy promotion for seniors, but DO NOT yet have a specific project to implement, can we participate?No, you cannot participate. The Silver Region program call for proposals is designed for institutions that already have specific projects in the areas of care innovation, caregiver training, dependence prevention, and autonomy promotion in older people (60+ years). Proposals must be at a stage where they have already generated sales and have a level of development that allows for immediate implementation at least one of the specified Latin American and Caribbean countries. Business ideas that have not yet materialized into concrete projects with sales are not eligible for this call.

If I am a startup or other social innovation actor that already has a project underway to improve products or services for the care and prevention directed at people over 60, can I participate?Yes, you can participate. The Silver Region program call for proposals is open to startups and other social innovation actors that already have projects underway to improve care and care dependency prevention products or services for older people (60+ years). Eligible institutions must be legally established as legal entities in Latin America and the Caribbean, with at least one year of existence, and have previous sales. There is no minimum of sales requirement for the application. Additionally, the project must be market-tested and ready to scale in one of the 26 IDB borrowing member countries mentioned in the call.

What are the stages of the application and selection process?Phase 1: Application (September 2, 2024 - November 2, 2024): Application and diagnosis. Phase 2: Acceleration (January 10, 2025 - April 4, 2025): Selection of up to 30 organizations per cohort to participate in an acceleration program. Phase 3: Financing (April 10, 2025): The implementation period and goals will be defined based on the work plan agreed with the Fundación Arturo Sesana and Agora Partnerships as the acceleration provider. Approximately 4 initiatives will be selected for funding, based on the results of the acceleration phase.

How much funding can be received?Each selected solution can receive up to USD 100,000 in non-reimbursable funding. The exact amount will be defined based on a work plan agreed with the IDB Lab, Fundación Arturo Sesana, IDRC, and GRADE. Organizations that are selected for Phase 3, financing, must enter into a contract with innpactia that details the disbursement of funding, establishes the counterpart amount, outlines obligations related to the manner and timing of the initiative's execution, and agrees to the monitoring of resource execution and impact by relevant parties.

What is required to access the funding?Apply at the link And meet the basic requirements: The initiative must align with one of the three topics: innovation in care services for seniors, caregiver training, and/or dependence prevention in older people (60+). Be a legal entity (for-profit or non-profit) formally established in Latin America and the Caribbean. Have been established at least one year before the application. Demonstrate a sales volume greater than USD$0 in the year prior to the application. The initiative must have been previously implemented in the region. Be selected to participate in the Acceleration Phase: The call will select up to 30 organizations per cohort to participate in the business acceleration and service humanization program. The selected organizations will have access to group workshops and individual advice for 12 weeks. Be selected in the Financing Phase: After the acceleration phase, an evaluation of the results obtained will be carried out and the initiatives per cohort will be selected to receive non-reimbursable funding. Comply with the financing requirements: The selected solutions must mobilize an amount of financial resources similar to those received as a counterpart, in cash or in-kind. The funding amount per solution can be up to $100,000, based on the agreed work plan. Sign a Financing Agreement: The selected organizations must sign an agreement with the program, which will include relevant commitments and representations. Complying with these requirements and going through the described phases is essential to access the funding of the Silver Region program.

Final selection: until November 29, 2024. Communication of results and the start of the acceleration program: December 6, 2024. Formalization of selected organizations to receive acceleration: between December 9 and December 20, 2024. Start of acceleration program: January 10, 2025. Duration of acceleration program: 12 weeks. Estimated date of selection of initiatives to be financed: The financing process is expected to start on April 10, 2025. The implementation timeline and goals will be defined based on the work plan agreed upon with IDB Lab and Fundación Arturo Sesana.
